The Next Great Artist

I had some serious reservations about the reality series "Work of Art" when I first saw the promos running on TV. I was thinking, "Are people going to start looking at artists the way we look at the crazy chicks on the Real Housewives of  New Jersey??". But I was pleasantly surprised after a few episodes... well, the first ones had a whole cast of crazies that reminded me of people I went to college with and I would like to forget. Not only were they irritating, but their skills majorly sucked too. That's right. You probably don't know who you are because you think you are the next Andy Warhol.

I was so stoked that Abdi won because he was the underdog... a very skilled one, but an underdog nonetheless. I seriously thought that Peregrine had it in the bag though. Her wax figures were amazing and the fawns, breathtaking. Miles had me a lost with this last one but he is still a genius. They all did a wonderful job and made an art geek proud. I can't wait until next season. Maybe someone from my art crew will be on!

What am I trying to say?

I've really felt like the fine artist in me has been slowly melting away. I want to create pieces, meaningful pieces, but I can't seem to find the time or the inspiration to do so. I'm struggling with this because I truly believe I was created to be an artist. I've done a few pieces for this blog, Dapper Wish, however they feel shallow and not the best that I can do.

I want to get back to the creative place I was in when I created work for my Senior Show two years ago. Those were the best pieces I've made to date. If I can just catch a glimmer of the inspiration I had when I made those, that would be awesome.

But for the moment life has taken over. I'm running a web design business, raising a daughter, and just trying to make it in this crazy world. I don't know what's coming next but hopefully it will inspire me to be the artist I was created to be.

Stay tuned...
